Make: Atola Technology

Model / Product: HDD Capacity Restore Tool

Version: unsure

Objective / Info: To restore a 200gb Maxtor hard drive that only shows 31gb, so that it shows 200gb in Windows XP. blog.atola.com

1
Download the application from the url in the objective section and install it on a computer where either the hard drive is attached or their is space for you to attach the hard drive internally.

Note :This program would not work with an external hard drive connected with a usb cable.

2
Visit the computers bios and make sure the hard drive can be seen by the bios as an additional hard drive.

Note :Your boot order should show your hard drive with the operating system as the primary / master drive

3
After windows is booted, click the HDD Restore Tool icon on the desktop.

4
You should see a screen that shows the hard drives connected to the computer.

5
Click the "Ok" button and the application will analyze the hard drive.
6
If the application can perform the task on the hard drive you should see a screen showing three important readings. Those are the "Reported Capacity" which is what Windows can see, the "Factory Capacity" which is the actual factory size of the drive, and the "Capacity difference" which is basically the amount of space that yo hope to recover. Press the "Restore Capacity" button.
Note : This image doesn't reflect the 200gb hard drive we actual used. These number should reflect your specific situation.

7
After the process completes. 1 minute for us, you should be asked to power off the computer, not reboot but power off completely. When you power back up you should see the entire size of the hard drive in the Windows Disk Manager.

Note :Pre existing partition of 31gb remained BUT the total space in Disk Manager was 200gb.
