How to mark up and annotate a PDF without acrobat

Open PowerPoint by clicking the desktop or start menu icon.

PowerPoint opens with a default slide available. Click in a blank white space to the left hand corner of the top box and drag to a white space just outside the lower left hand corner of the bottom box.
  Note : You can delete one box at a time if you like.

Click "insert" from the main menu.

Click "object."

Select "Create new", select the object type of "Adobe Acrobat Document" and press "ok".
  Note : If these are selected already, click ok.

This should open a windows files browser window. Select the PDF file that you wish to mark up.

Close the PDF file if it opens with adobe reader and you should be left with the PowerPoint slide with your pdf file inside of it.

Click on three little dots that border the PDF file to resize it to your satisfaction.

If you need to change the layout of the page to "Portrait", then click "Design" on the menu, then click "Slide Orientation" and choose "Portrait"
  Note : If you want to use "landscape" then skip this step.

With the "Insert" tab selected, click on the "Shapes" option. Then choose any of the available mark up tools.
  Note : We will use a callout for this example.

Your mouse icon should turn into a cross-hair. Find the location on your PDF that you want to mark up and click and drag your shape over it.
  Note : Double click to edit the call-out box and add text

After you have marked up the PDF file in PowerPoint, you are ready to save it as a PDF file.

Click the "Office" icon in the upper left hand corner.

Roll your mouse over "Save As".

  Note : Do not click "Save As"

Click on "PDF or XPS" and select where you want to save the PDF you just marked up.
