Launch Google Docs by clicking on the "Google apps" icon next to your avatar and click on the Google Docs icon.

Create a new document by clicking on "Blank document".
  Note : Alternatively, you can select an already existing document.

Click on where you want to add the footnote.

In the toolbar, click on "Insert" then click on "Footnote".

  Note : Alternatively, you can just hit Ctrl + Alt + F on your keyboard.

Type out whatever you want as the footnote.

The footnote should now appear as a number next to your sentence.
